Trae Young And Dejounte Murray Hated The Hawks ‘Only Fans’ Promo For The In-Season Tournament

The NBA and its teams are working hard to publicize and effectively raise awareness of the league’s first-ever In-Season Tournament, which got underway last week. The teams are still participating in the fun despite the league’s excellent “Heist” advertising campaign, which included LL Cool J and The Roots contributing to a tournament promo song.

The Atlanta Hawks launched a…let’s say…very different” campaign on Thursday to sell tickets for the In-Season Tournament. The campaign included a Hawks “Only Fans” video that starred a seductive Harry the Hawk.

Although there was a mixed reaction, it garnered a lot of attention, so you could say that overall, the goal was achieved. The Hawks’ star players were categorically marked as “not a fan” in the response, which was the only issue. Trae Young quickly clarified that he had nothing to do with it, but Dejounte Murray asked the Hawks to “Delete This Shit.” Murray’s request was much more direct.

As a social team, I’m not sure that’s the best response you’re looking for from your best players, and I’m sure there are some really fascinating calls and Slack conversations going on this afternoon at Hawks HQ. Atlanta’s first-ever In-Season Tournament will take place in Detroit on Tuesday, following their matchup with the Magic in Mexico City tonight.
