Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Jamel Dean Suffers Concussion Against Texans

Jamel Dean, the starting cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was concussed during the opening period of their 39-37 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.

When Dean dove to tackle Texans wide receiver Nico Collins on a slant route and missed his feet, Dean’s upper body struck the ground forcefully, allowing Collins to race into the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown.

The training staff assisted Dean off the field before ruling him out.

Zyon McCollum, a native of Galveston who was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Sam Houston State, has made three starts this season, replacing Dean (in Week 4) and Carlton Davis, the other starting cornerback for the Bucs (Weeks 2-3). During those games, Dean was recovering from a neck/shoulder injury and Davis was recovering from a foot injury.
