The person that was hired to play Britney Spears’ “The Woman in Me” on the audiobook was Michelle Williams. However, many other “celebrities” were vying for the role, according to Saturday Night Live’s second spoof of the evening.
The majority of the work in SNL’s now-famous audition series was done by Chloe Fineman. She opened the skit by taking on the role of Spears. Later on, she took on the identities of Timothée Chalamet, Julia Fox, and Natasha Lyonne, three of the countless people who tried to read passages from the biography.
In the audition sketch, other actors played impersonations of other actors: Jada Pinkett Smith (Ego Nwodim), the B52s’ Fred Schneider (Bowen Yang), John Mulaney (Sarah Sherman), Martin Scorcese (Chalamet), and Allison Janney (Heidi Gardner). In the end, Mulaney read a few lines from her memoir, “Worthy.”
Even Bill Hader was impersonated, though alas, he wasn’t present. Instead, Michael Longfellow played the part.
