Rashunda Jones Named B1G Freshman Of The Week In Women’s Basketball

Rashunda Jones, a freshman guard for Purdue women’s basketball, is already garnering recognition two weeks into her Boilermaker career. On Monday, she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

In Purdue’s victory over Texas A&M on Thursday night, the rookie guard put up a career-high 20 points on 8-11 shooting along with two rebounds. As per the release from Purdue women’s basketball today, it was the first game with more than 20 points from a freshman Boilermaker since Karissa McLaughlin. Additionally, McLaughlin was the final Boilermaker to receive the honor.

Following two games in which Jones averaged four points on 20 percent shooting from the field, the remarkable performance last week was followed by that.

Guard Rashunda Jones, a four-star recruit from South Bend, Indiana’s Washington High School, signed her national letter of intent to play for Purdue women’s basketball on Wednesday morning.

Jones was characterized by ESPN as a “high-level defender and instant-energy point guard who makes solid decisions.”

Jones received fifteen more Division I offers from universities, including Boston College, Michigan State, Iowa, Marquette, and Michigan.
