Post Malone, Morgan Wallen and Hardy Pay Tribute to Joe Diffie During High-Energy CMA Awards

post-malone

Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, and Hardy shared the stage to honor the late country music icon Joe Diffie at the CMA Awards on Wednesday. Wallen and Hardy began by playing Diffie’s 1993 hit song “John Deere Green” together. Then, they invited Malone to join them on stage so they could perform the 1994 hit song “Pickup Man” as a trio.

Even though Post Malone is most closely linked to the hip-hop and pop genres, he has previously demonstrated his love of the country music by covering several country songs, including Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song),” Sturgill Simpson’s “You Can Have the Crown,” and Hank Williams’ “There’s a Tear in My Beer.” In 2022, he took the stage with Billy Strings to perform Johnny Cash’s “Cocaine Blues” live.

In 2023, Hardy released “The Mockingbird and the Crow,” his country album featuring Wallen. His song “Wait in the Truck” featuring Lainey Wilson won early CMAs for music video of the year and musical event of the year, it was announced prior to the ceremony. At the end of the telecast, Wilson—the artist with the most nominations this year—won Entertainer of the Year.

The 37th edition of the CMAs will once again be hosted by Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning. Jelly Roll and K. Michelle, Old Dominion and Megan Moroney, Carly Pearce and Chris Stapleton, and Tanya Tucker and Little Big Town were among the other artists who collaborated.

“Leave Me Again” was performed by Kelsea Ballerini. Among the many performances by country music stars were “Save Me the Trouble” by Dan + Shay and a No. 1 hits medley by Luke Bryan.

The day after they air on ABC, the CMAs are available to stream on Hulu.
