Niclas Fullkrug And Julian Brandt Goal Earns Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Victory Against Newcastle

In Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League match at Signal Iduna Park, Newcastle United lost 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund, despite playing a very competitive game. The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute through a goal from Niclas Fullkrug, and Dortmund did not add to their total until 11 minutes left when Julian Brandt doubled their lead.

Niclas Fullkrug, who scored his first Champions League goal at the age of 30, and the outstanding Julian Brandt also scored goals to give Dortmund a well-earned victory over Newcastle.

They are one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, who play later tonight, in Group F. If they win their next two games, they will have an insurmountable lead over their opponents, who are aware that getting the maximum number of points may not be sufficient.

Dortmund, still stinging from their humiliation in the weekend’s Klassiker, got off to a strong start without producing much, while Newcastle appeared to be recovering from Arsenal’s brutal physical and psychological defeat. However, the score did not reflect the balance of play until the 26th minute, when Fullkrug finished with a respectable amount of ease after Newcastle had missed several opportunities to clear the ball.

Newcastle started the second half strongly, with Eddie Howe substituting Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon. However, on minute 56, Joelinton missed a header that he could have easily blown in, and his team found it difficult to create anything after that.

Even so, they forced a series of risky set-pieces that produced nothing. Finally, on 79 minutes, Julian Brandt broke through after the superb Karim Adeyemi swept one clear. Using Marcel Sabitzer as a ruse, Brandt finished brilliantly, sweeping the ball past Nick Pope and into the far corner to end the game.

After that, Newcastle sighed and puffed, but they knew the game was over and knew they would have to fight to stay in the Europa League, which they currently hold. Eddie Howe has a ton of work ahead of him due to the injuries sustained by Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, and Alexander Isak. Sandro Tonali is also suspended.
