New York Mets’ Top Managerial Candidate Close To Making Decision

Top candidate Craig Counsell is anticipated to make his selection in the coming days, which means the New York Mets are almost certain to name their next manager, according to Andy Martino of SNY.

Counsell may make a comeback to the Milwaukee Brewers after interviewing with the Cleveland Guardians and Mets. He’s a serious candidate for the Cleveland job.

A solid contender for the Mets’ opening beyond Counsell is Carlos Mendoza, the bench coach for the New York Yankees. Mendoza had interviews with the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants (Bob Melvin was hired), and the Guardians.

The only way the Mets’ managerial search could go beyond this week is if Counsell and Mendoza accept offers from other companies, as Martino also revealed. These seem to be the two most likely candidates for the job.

In addition, Oakland Athletics manager Mark Kotsay has been interviewed by the Mets, as has former Padres manager and Chicago Cubs bench coach Andy Green.
