Milwaukee Bucks Stage Comeback, Overcoming A 26-Point Deficit For The Victory

The Bucks orchestrated an impressive comeback, erasing a 26-point third-quarter deficit to secure a 108-102 victory against the Trail Blazers on Sunday, marking the NBA’s largest comeback this season.

Trailing 81-55 with 9:08 left in the third quarter, the Bucks executed a remarkable turnaround, concluding the game with a 58-21 run and outscoring the Blazers by 32 points. During this surge, Milwaukee’s star duo of Damian Lillard (17 points) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (15 points) individually outscored the Trail Blazers 32-21.

Antetokounmpo, finishing with 33 points, clinched the win by tipping in a basket with 18.5 seconds remaining, breaking a tie and securing the Bucks’ victory.

Despite ESPN’s win probability analytics giving the Trail Blazers over a 98% chance of winning during the third quarter, the Bucks achieved one of their most significant comebacks in the past 25 seasons, second only to a 27-point comeback against Chicago in 2012.

The Bucks improved to 12-5 for the season with this comeback victory, even without forward Khris Middleton, sidelined due to tendinitis in his left Achilles. Coach Adrian Griffin stated Middleton is day-to-day, with no specified timeline for his return.

Sunday’s game marked Lillard’s first face-off against Portland since his trade to Milwaukee after 11 years with the Trail Blazers. Although he didn’t speak to the media postgame, Lillard acknowledged the unusual nature of the matchup in a walk-off interview.

Lillard’s 30-point performance against Portland made him the 15th player in NBA history to score 30 points against 30 different franchises, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Additionally, it was the second consecutive game where both Lillard and Antetokounmpo each scored 30 points, a feat accomplished by Bucks teammates for the first time since 1978 with Marques Johnson and Brian Winters.
