Michigan Star Lineman Zak Zinter Carted Off Field With Leg Injury

Late in the third quarter of Michigan’s game against Ohio State on Saturday, star lineman Zak Zinter was carted off the field due to a serious injury to his left leg.

Later on in the day, Zinter’s mother shared on Facebook that Zak broke his tibia and fibula and had surgery on Saturday night to treat the fractures. While he was at the ER, she wrote, the Michigan team FaceTimed him from the locker room.

“HUGE THANK YOU to the hundreds of family/friends/fans that have reached out!” Tiffany Zinter wrote. “Please know we’ll read them when we get a moment. We are beyond feeling the LOVE! On the bright side…he’s 3-0 against OSU!!”

Later, Zinter posted a picture of himself recovering from surgery on social media, along with his parents and coach Jim Harbaugh. The caption read, “Surgery went great, Love TEAM 144!!” I appreciate you guys having my back and finishing strong! I’ll return stronger than before. “See you in Indianapolis!”

There were 2:19 remaining in the quarter, the score tied at 17, and Zinter was blocking an 18-yard pass from J.J. McCarthy to tight end AJ Barner when his leg gave way. Gamers made a hurried motion for a medical cart.

Medical staff loaded Zinter onto a cart and drove him to a nearby hospital as the crowd chanted, “Let’s go Zak.” Sherrone Moore, the offensive line coach and acting head coach at Michigan, said he spoke with Zinter’s mother and got “some positive news.”

Blake Corum of Michigan scored on the game-winning play and displayed the numbers six and five to honor Zinter, who has started 42 games and missed just one during his Wolverines tenure.

Zinter, a third-year starter from North Andover, Massachusetts, was selected to the first team of the Big Ten in 2022 and the second team in 2021. He was a part of Michigan’s winning offensive line that led the country to consecutive Joe Moore awards. This season, Zinter has started every game at right guard and is a serious contender for All-America recognition.

Correct tackle With Zinter hurt, senior Trente Jones entered the game at right tackle, and Karsen Barnhart moved to right guard.
