Marquis Haynes Sr. Activated Against Thursday Night Game Vs. Chicago Bears

Just in time, the Carolina Panthers defense’s unsung hero has made a comeback.

Outside linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. has been activated, the team announced on Thursday afternoon, just hours before kickoff for tonight’s game against the Chicago Bears. The sixth-year defender was cleared to return from injured reserve earlier this week after missing the first eight games of the season due to a back injury.

For their Week 10 game, Carolina will already be lacking a number of edge rushers. In addition to Justin Houston (hamstring) and Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring), two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns has already been ruled out due to a concussion. Both players are currently on injured reserve.

Last season, Haynes Sr. recorded a career-high 5.0 sack total, which was the third-highest on the team. In addition, he set records for quarterback hits (13), passes defensed (four), combined tackles (29), and tackles for a loss (seven).

The Panthers have two other outside backs on their active roster in addition to Haynes Sr.: Amaré Barno and DJ Johnson.
