Mark Stoops Stays At Kentucky Despite Texas A&M Rumors

Mark Stoops has announced that he will remain at Kentucky following several reports this past weekend that connected him to the Texas A&M head coaching position.

Less than twenty-four hours after the Wildcats’ thrilling 38-31 upset win over No. 10 Louisville, head coach Brad Stoops, who is in his eleventh season at Kentucky, made the announcement on social media early on Sunday morning.

Texas A&M was not mentioned by name in Stoops’ social media post, but he did state that he was “contacted about a potential opportunity this weekend.”

Since dismissing Jimbo Fisher two weeks ago, Texas A&M has been looking for a new coach. However, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that the Aggies will not be hiring Stoops.

After two games, Texas A&M (7-5, 4-4 SEC) was led by interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who is reportedly in the running for the permanent position. The Aggies fell to No. 14 LSU in the regular-season finale on Saturday.

For the record eighth time in school history, Kentucky (7-5, 3-5 SEC) is headed to a bowl game under head coach Mike Stoops. Kentucky last experienced a run of at least eight consecutive winning seasons between 1946 and 1956.

With a 73-64 career record, Stoops is the most successful coach in Kentucky football history. His current contract runs through the 2031 campaign.
