Los Angeles Rams Makes Deal With QB Carson Wentz

The Los Angeles Rams announced on Wednesday that they had reached an agreement with quarterback Carson Wentz to cover for an injured Matthew Stafford.

In order to give Wentz time to become used to Los Angeles’ offense, the Rams made the move during their bye week.

With a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb, Stafford left the Rams’ Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He was not available to play against the Green Bay Packers the following week. Brett Rypien, the quarterback who started Week 9 and completed 46.4% of his passes for 130 yards and an interception, took his place.

Rypien was waived by the Rams on Tuesday.

With two years left on his contract, Wentz was released in February after playing for the Washington Commanders during the 2022 season.

In exchange for Wentz, Washington sent two 2022 third-round picks to the Colts and traded Indianapolis two second-round picks.

In the same year that the Rams traded up to the No. 1 pick to select Jared Goff, Wentz was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the second overall pick in the 2016 draft. Wentz lost his starting position to Jalen Hurts and was traded during the 2021 offseason.
