Los Angeles Lakers Comeback Falls Short In 125-110 Defeat To Sacramento Kings

On Wednesday night, the Sacramento Kings defeated Los Angeles 125-110, their fourth straight victory, despite LeBron James’ 108th career triple-double and the Lakers’ fourth-quarter comeback attempt. Domantas Sabonis led the team with 29 points and 16 rebounds.

The Kings, who won their fifth straight game against their downstate rivals, ended Los Angeles’ three-game winning streak thanks to 28 points apiece from De’Aaron Fox and Kevin Huerter.

“Got out to a great start,” said Huerter, who hit six 3-pointers. “We established ourselves offensively, got out in transition, played fast. I don’t think we maintained it the rest of the game, but shows what we’re capable of when we’re playing at that level.”

In his first triple-double of his 21st NBA season, James recorded 28 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, severing his tie with Jason Kidd for the fifth-most in NBA history. In the fourth quarter, he also spearheaded the Lakers’ comeback, cutting Sacramento’s 26-point advantage to nine points before they ran out of gas.

Mike Brown, the coach of Sacramento, praised the 38-year-old James’ performance as “amazing.”

“I don’t know if you can put a timetable on when he’s going to be done,” added Brown, who coached James for five seasons in Cleveland. “I think there’s only one person that can, and that’s him. Well, maybe two, because his wife might be able to do something about that. He’s absolutely amazing to do what he does at his age. It’s phenomenal. I’m amazed every time we go against him.”

The Kings have defeated the Lakers three times in a row in Los Angeles, and early in the fourth quarter, their three best scorers gave them a 106-80 lead. Unexpectedly, the Lakers continued to play with their starters and went on a 30-point run, but they were unable to narrow the huge deficit.
