Lamar Jackson Downplays Ankle Injury Suffered During Ravens’ Victory Against Bengals

The Ravens and Bengals’ Week 11 opener on Thursday night was promoted as a heavyweight matchup between two division rivals. But it was really more of a fight against the injury bug, who prevailed by knockout. A number of significant injuries, including those to Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (sprained wrist) and tight end Mark Andrews (feared to have an ankle injury that would end the season), overshadowed Baltimore’s 34–20 victory. And for a brief moment, it appeared as though Lamar Jackson would be included in that list of injuries.

By the time the Ravens had their third possession of the game, the quarterback was limping. Jackson was forced to roll out to his right after being flushed out of the pocket on a third-and-four play.

Logan Wilson, a linebacker for the Bengals, chased him down, and the two appeared to stumble unnaturally out of bounds. While receiving treatment from the trainers, Jackson was sluggish to stand and even lay back down on the grass. He was eventually able to stand and take a seat on the bench, having already reached Baltimore’s sideline.

Jackson then entered the blue medical tent to have his left ankle examined more thoroughly. Luckily for the Ravens, he came out of the tent, swatted at the fans on the sidelines, and entered the game without missing an offensive snap.

Jackson played on, but it was obvious that his injury was limiting him because he occasionally walked with a noticeable limp during the game.

Jackson played down his injury to reporters after the game, saying he was fine.

“I’m good, we need to stop talking about this ankle,” Jackson said, via NFL.com. “I’m good.”

In addition to gaining 54 yards on the ground, Jackson concluded the evening 16 of 26 passing for 264 yards and two passing touchdowns. Even though he was able to play flawlessly in this game, it will be interesting to see how much he participates in practice the following week as the Ravens get ready to play the Chargers in Los Angeles in Week 12.
