Kansas Jayhawks Defeat Kentucky Wildcats

Throughout the majority of Tuesday’s Champions Classic men’s basketball match, the top-ranked Kansas Jayhawks appeared apathetic.

The 17th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats were defeated 89-84 at the United Center after KU went on a 21-4 run in 5 minutes, 28 seconds of play, converting a 14-point deficit into a three-point lead.

The Jayhawks demonstrated their complete dominance during the decisive run, which demonstrated why they should once again have championship hopes.

With 27 points and 21 rebounds, including 15 on defense, Hunter Dickinson recorded a double-double. For KU (3-0), Dajuan Harris added a career-high 23 points, improving the team’s record against Kentucky to 12-24 overall.

With 18.2 seconds remaining in the game, Kansas was up three, 87-84. With 5.4 seconds remaining, the Jayhawks grabbed the rebound after Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard erred on a 3-point attempt. Jamari McDowell, a freshman, was fouled right away and made both of his free throws to seal the victory.

In their last eight meetings with the bluebloods, KU is now 6-2 against them, including 3-2 in the Champions Classic.

On Monday, the Jayhawks take on Chaminade in the Maui Invitational.
