Jose Luis Morales Secures Hat-Trick As Villarreal Triumphs Over Osasuna In Marcelino’s Debut Home Match

Villarreal returned to the path of victory in La Liga, securing a home win against Osasuna in Marcelino’s inaugural league match back in charge.

With the assistance of extra time, the visiting manager managed a Copa del Rey victory against Zamora on Thursday night. With Jose Luis Morales largely to thank, the team has now won two straight.

After moving to the Yellows from Levante more than a year ago, Morales has struggled with them. He scored twice on Thursday and added another on Thursday afternoon.

Morales gave the Yellows the lead in the 57th minute following some heroics from Filip Jorgensen, who made excellent saves to deny the visitors early in the first and second halves. A beautiful pass from Alex Baena found Gerard Moreno, who finished with a tap-in.

When Morales dribbled the ball past his defender and raced 50 yards toward goal in the 71st minute, the score was two. He galloped off and finished coolly by slotting home.

After Alejandro Catena headed one goal back for Villarreal in the 76th minute, there were a few nervous moments for the home team. However, four minutes later, Morales put an end to the match by sidestepping the goalkeeper and dodging the defenders on the line with a top-corner finish.

El Comandante gave a fantastic performance; he needed the confidence after his previous struggles at the club. Marcelino, who is two from two going into Thursday night’s match against Panathinaikos, is off to a fantastic start. As of this writing, the Yellows have moved up to 12th position.
