Jalen Milroe’s TD Pass On Fourth-And-31 Rescues No. 8 Alabama Against Auburn

No. 8 Alabama’s playoff hopes were saved on Saturday when Jalen Milroe and Isaiah Bond connected for a game-winning touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 31 to defeat Auburn, 27-24.

In the most recent thrilling Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium, Bond successfully intercepted quarterback Drew Milroe’s desperate pass in the left corner of the end zone with 32 seconds remaining, giving the Crimson Tide (11-1, 8-0 Southeastern Conference) their tenth consecutive victory.

With 1:43 remaining and trailing by four, Alabama had a first-and-goal at the Auburn 7 before regressing. A poor snap cost the Crimson Tide eighteen yards, and Milroe crossing the line of scrimmage on third down resulted in an illegal downfield pass that set them back five more yards.

Alabama defeated the Tigers on the Plains, the site of the Kick Six in college football history, requiring four overtimes to win.

On the last play, Alabama almost returned an interception for a second touchdown. However, fourth-and-31, a play where Auburn failed to exert any pressure on Milroe before he spotted Bond, will live on in the memory of this game throughout the state.

With a 12-yard run and a 27-yard touchdown reception, Ja’Varrius Johnson gave the Tigers (6-6, 3-5) a chance to win.

Milroe ran for 107 additional yards and completed passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Among his 107 receiving yards was a 68-yard touchdown reception by Jermaine Burton. Bond totaled 75 yards from five catches.

For Auburn, Payton Thorne ran for 58 yards and completed passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Damari Alston gained 85 yards while Jarquez Hunter ran for 93 yards.

Favored by 12 1/2 points in this one, Alabama advances to the SEC Championship Game against No. 1 Georgia with at least some, if not all, of its playoff hopes still alive.

With 4:48 remaining, Alabama had the ball on the Auburn 30 after a mishandled punt. On third-and-20, however, cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett turned over a dazed Milroe just a yard short of the first down. The game-winning touchdown was set up when Roydell Williams took a pitch and converted the fourth down.

Auburn led 21–20 at the halfway point of the third quarter after Thorne found a wide-open Johnson for a touchdown. With ten minutes remaining, Alex McPherson’s 21-yard field goal made it 24–20.
