Gunman Shoots 4 Inside Ohio Walmart, Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot, Authorities Confirmed

According to authorities, a man brandishing a rifle barged into an Ohio Walmart and started shooting, injuring four people.

According to the authorities, the incident took place in Beavercreek, approximately 10 miles southeast of Dayton, on Monday at 8:36 p.m. ET.

Around 8:42 p.m., a responding officer discovered the gunman dead inside the store from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Beavercreek police.

According to authorities, three of the victims were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition, while the fourth victim only had non-life-threatening wounds. As of Tuesday afternoon, one victim’s condition remained critical, while the others were stable, according to the police.

According to authorities, the four victims—three women and one man—were inside the store shopping when the shooting occurred.

Beavercreek police identified Benjamin Charles Jones, a 20-year-old Dayton resident, as the suspected shooter.

“The FBI is currently looking at the shooter, his background, his motivation,” Zrinka Dilber, the assistant special agent in charge for the FBI’s Cincinnati Field Office, told reporters during a press briefing on Tuesday. “We are very, very early in this process.”

Mayor Bob Stone of Beavercreek praised the prompt action following the shooting, stating that it “definitely prevented fatalities and lessened the effects of this terrible incident.”

“It’s always one of those things where you don’t think it can happen in your community. So anytime it does, it’s shocking. It’s tragic,” acting Beavercreek Police Chief Capt. Chad Lindsey told reporters.

In a statement to ABC News, Walmart said that its employees were “heartbroken.”

“We’re heartbroken by what’s happened at our Beavercreek, Ohio store,” the company’s statement read. “This remains a developing situation, and we’re working closely with investigators on the scene.”

Beavercreek police were assisted with their investigation on Monday night by the FBI, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other nearby agencies.
