Geordie Walker, Iconic Rock Guitarist And Member Of Killing Joke, Passes Away At 64

The music community is in sorrow following the confirmation of the passing of Geordie Walker, the guitarist of Killing Joke, at the age of 64.

The post-punk band, established in 1979, conveyed the tragic news on Instagram, stating, “It is with extreme sadness we confirm that at 6.30am on 26th November 2023 in Prague, Killing Joke’s legendary guitarist Kevin “Geordie” Walker passed away after suffering a stroke; he was surrounded by family. We are devastated. Rest In Peace brother.”

Born in County Durham in 1958, Walker joined the band in 1979, alongside lead singer Jaz Coleman, making them the longest-serving members. The band gained prominence in the early ’80s within the post-punk scene.

Walker’s distinctive guitar-playing played a significant role in the band’s success, especially evident in their breakthrough with the release of ‘Night Time,’ their fifth studio album, in 1985.

Killing Joke’s impact extended globally, influencing major bands like Nirvana, Metallica, and Nine Inch Nails. Walker received personal accolades from rock legends, with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page describing his sounds as “really strong” at one point in his illustrious career.
