Jay Weinberg, Slipknot’s longtime drummer, has left the band.
The band used social media to announce the split; the post has since been removed, but you can view it in its entirety below. Slipknot’s website still has the message.
We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past 10 years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But, as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision and part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.
Weinberg has not responded to this article’s publication regarding the split.
In 2014, Weinberg (son of fellow percussionist and longtime Bruce Springsteen E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg) joined Slipknot, taking over for the late Joey Jordison, who had left the band in 2013. Fans of Slipknot were quickly won over to Jay’s intensely energetic and technically proficient drumming style.
Jay was already well-known as a drummer before he joined Slipknot. He was a musician in several bands and had taken on the role of his father’s replacement in the E Street Band when Springsteen was on tour. Slipknot was drawn to him because of his versatility and impressive drumming abilities, and he was a perfect fit for the band’s aggressive and chaotic sound.
Jay performed on the studio albums with Slipknot, helping to further the band’s success.5: The End, So Far (2022), The Gray Chapter (2014), and We Are Not Your Kind (2019). His trademark mask and powerful drumming contributed to Slipknot’s unique live persona, making him an essential component of the band’s legendary live shows.
