David Benavidez Beats 2-division Boxing Champ Demetrius Andrade

WBC super middleweight boxer David Benavidez’s beat 2-division boxing champion Demetrius Andrade for the super middleweight title on Saturday night at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), 26, knocked Andrade down in the fourth round. He has won eight of his past 10 fights by stoppage.  

“I solidified myself as champion, I want them to know who the real champion of the division is. Who wants to see the fight with Canelo? This new motivation made me stop the way I did,” Benavidez said after the contest. 

Andrade (32-1, 19 KOs), 35, could only spar till the third round. This was the first time fighting a top fighter like Benavidez. 

His best wins were against Maciej Sulecki in 2019 and Liam Williams in 2021.

Andrade has been quite inactive recently with this fight being his second major fight in two years. 

In the co-main event, Jermall Charlo returned after two years to defeat Jose Benavidez Jr. by unanimous decision. 

On the action-packed card, Puerto Rican champion Subriel Matias demolished Shohjahon Ergashev to defend the International Boxing Federation super lightweight title.

In a fight for the World Boxing Association lightweight crown, Dominican Hector Luis Garcia fell to Lamont Roach’s fists in a split decision (114-113 for Roach, 114-113 Garcia and 116-111 for Roach).
