Chicago Bears’ Jaylon Johnson Seeks Trade Before Deadline, Source Confirms

According to a source who spoke with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Chicago Bears have given cornerback Jaylon Johnson permission to pursue a trade before Tuesday’s deadline.

The source informed Fowler that Johnson recently asked to be traded since he and the Bears were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract last week.

Johnson is now one of the best players available and is scheduled to become a free agency at the end of this season. Before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, veteran defensive backs Kevin Byard and J.C. Jackson were dealt earlier this season.

According to a source who spoke with ESPN’s Ed Werder, the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills are two of the teams considering trades for Johnson.

The last-place Bears (2-6) may utilize Johnson’s franchise tag the next season if they are unable to move him.

In an interview with Chicago radio station 670 The Score last week, Johnson said that contract talks with the Bears were “starting to ramp up,” but when questioned about the likelihood of a trade, he also said that “many different things that can happen.”

In six games this season, Johnson, 24, has racked up 18 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. This is his fourth season with the Bears. During his 45 career games with Chicago, the 2020 second-round draft pick amassed 143 tackles and three interceptions.
