Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Returns To Cincinnati Bengals, About 10 months After Collapse

Sunday night marked Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin‘s return to Cincinnati, roughly ten months after he nearly passed away during a nationally televised game due to a collapse.

The vital Week 17 game was ruled a no-contest after 25-year-old Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest early in the Bills-Bengals “Monday Night Football” game at Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium on January 2.

After being taken to the hospital in critical condition, he was given the all-clear to resume playing football.

Hamlin has expressed his gratitude profusely to the Cincinnati first responders and medical staff of the Bills, who were instrumental in saving his life.

He established a nonprofit organization to provide Cincinnati’s underprivileged kids with scholarships.

At the game on Sunday night, Hamlin was not a member of the active roster. He has only appeared in one game this season, Buffalo’s 48-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins on October 1. He has played sparingly.

The game on Sunday has a somewhat arbitrary schedule.

Two games per season between NFL teams and their three division rivals are a given. The remaining games are determined by a system that matches teams with teams of comparable strength, rotating opponents and establishing parity in the league.

The Bills and Bengals are not supposed to play each season, but they have been regular rivals lately. Buffalo has a 17-16 advantage in the series that began in 1968.
