Alex Pereira KOs Jiri Prochazka Set To Become The NEW UFC Light Heavyweight Champion

What an evening. Five fights on the main card ended in KOs or TKOs, all in the span of two rounds.

To be honest, I believe Alex Pereira may have been given the decision to end the bout early, which takes some of the wind out of his championship victory. That being said, it was still a really good battle, and I felt like the momentum was shifting with each leg kick Pereira delivered.

As demonstrated by Daniel Cormier earlier this week, even 5% of Poatan’s strength is significant, and by the end of the bout, Jiri Prochazka’s lead leg was blue. He could not possibly stand on it for very long.

It was also amazing to watch Pereira receive such a warm reception from the New York audience—he is now a huge celebrity in the UFC. People adore his unwavering warrior mindset and austere demeanor, and when you combine them with his friendship with Glover Texeira, you become an instant fan favorite. The audience went crazy as he let loose with his imaginary bow and arrow during his walkout.

It will be interesting to see what happens with that title in the future, but as I mentioned with the co-main event this evening, don’t be shocked if they repeat this event in a few years. Jiri is by no means finished. He’s only now beginning.
