The 49ers controlled every aspect of Sunday’s game against a 6-2 Jaguars team who were basking in a 5-game winning streak.
The 49er defense sacked Trevor Lawrence five times and hit him 10 more times. They intercepted him twice and stopped the Jaguar’s best touchdown chance.
Chase Young made his 49ers debut Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after joining San Francisco from the Washington Commanders.
Young was the star of the night, alongside fellow Pro Bowl pass rusher Nick Bosa.
Bosa is a three-time Pro Bowler and the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Young is a former Defensive Rookie of the Year who made the Pro Bowl in his first season after being selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Bosa finished the day with 1.5 sacks, two quarterback hits, a pass defended and the fumble forced and recovered on his shared strip sack with Young.
The 49ers took a 13-3 lead into halftime, then opened the game up on the first possession of the third quarter with a 66-yard touchdown pass from Purdy to George Kittle.
He finished the day completing 19 of 26 pass attempts for 296 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
