Washington Commanders Have 9 Picks In The 2024 Draft

Today, the Washington Commanders acquired two picks for Day 2 of the draft the next year and completed two deals. For DE Montez Sweat, the Bears gave up their second-round pick for the following season. Chicago would have the third overall pick if the season ended today, with a 2-6 record (one victory coming from Washington).

Montez Sweat would therefore be selected by the Commanders with the 37th overall choice. With Sweat and quarterback Justin Fields back, Chicago’s fortunes could improve, but it seems quite likely that they will finish in the bottom ten. Every week, Washington will be cheering for a Bears loss.

Calls for Washington’s other starting DE were still being answered. Chase Young, despite not receiving any offers that satisfied their stated demand for a third-round selection. Although he was being linked to several organizations, the San Francisco 49ers made the offer of one of their compensatory third-round picks for the following season. They were among the greatest teams in the league, but after three straight losses, they are trying to get better in order to contend for another Super Bowl.

Washington will enter the summer with nine draft picks overall, up from their initial seven picks entering today. Josh Harris’s new job will have an excellent start because five of those selections are probably within the top 100.

Additionally, Washington is expected to have over $90 million in cap space, which might mean that they are quite active in free agency the next year. However, they have a number of pending free agents who may sign new deals before the start of the next league season. According to Ron Rivera, the delayed ownership shift prevented them from completing some of the extensions they had planned. The upcoming GM will not be subject to those limitations.
