Warriors Give Phoenix Suns Forward Kevin Durant Tribute Video, Standing Ovation

The Phoenix Suns began their regular season in the Bay Area, where forward Kevin Durant grew up playing for the Golden State Warriors and winning two NBA Finals before joining the Brooklyn Nets.

Since leaving the Bay after 2018–19, Durant had not returned to compete in front of fans.

Prior to the season opener at the Chase Center, the Warriors honored Durant in a way that they were determined to do, and they did so by releasing the following video:

While the majority of the Warriors home fans cheered for Durant, he did hear some jeers.

In an interview with Marc J Spears of Andscape, Durant expressed his opinion that the Warriors ought to retire his No. 35 jersey.

“He should. Look at the résumé. That would warrant me to get a jersey retirement, right? Do I want to be honored by a franchise I put work in for? Of course, I would love that,” Durant told Spears. “I had some great moments there. I built some solid relationships there. Yeah, man. Hell yeah, that would be sweet. I love that organization, man. I love my time there, seriously. Me leaving, people shouldn’t doubt that, because I left there.”

In the future, Golden State might do so, and if he can assist in bringing the Valley its first-ever NBA Finals, the Suns might also board that train.
