Tottenham Moves 5 Points Clear With 2-1 Win Against Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur‘s perfect start to the season continued on Friday as they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 to take a five-point lead atop the Premier League.

In an even first half, Ange Postecoglou’s team was matched by London rivals Palace; nevertheless, just after the interval, they gained the lead thanks to an own goal from Joel Ward.

After 66 minutes, Spurs captain Son Heung-min scored his eighth league goal of the year to basically seal the victory. The visitors were then in complete control until Jordan Ayew scored for Palace in stoppage time.

Both goals were assisted by James Maddison, a former Leicester City player who once again performed admirably for the visitors.

Despite a difficult first few minutes and some late nerves, Postecoglou’s team dominated at Palace in their 2-0 victory over Fulham on Monday.

After ten games, most of which were against teams in the lower part of the table, the Spurs are starting to show that they are a team that can mount a sustained campaign at the top.

Since they last won the championship on the last day of the season in 1961, this is the largest lead they have had at the top.
