Stefano Pioli Would Like To See More Goals From Rafael Leao As The Season Goes On

Stefano Pioli wants to see more goals from Rafael Leao, and a strategy is being developed to bring the Portuguese forward closer to the goal in each encounter as the season progresses.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Leao’s style has occasionally grown monotonous and frequently results in neither him nor a teammate taking an attempt on goal.

He frequently beats the defender on the flank to get to the byline, when he usually pauses before cutting back to play a pass. Pioli wants him to just move the ball closer to the goal by directing such runs into the area.

They point out that Leao’s next opponents, Kylian Mbappe and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who play in the same position, average 4.9 and 4.2 shots per game, respectively. Leao’s 1.9 on average.

Kvaratskhelia averages nine touches in the box per game, whereas Mbappe has 11.4. Leao only has 7.4. Although he does attempt more crosses than players from PSG and Napoli, Pioli would prefer to see him work more inside the box.
