Sources Reveal That Titans Rookie Will Levis Is Expected To Start Against Steelers

Will Levis, the rookie quarterback for the Titans who made his NFL debut on Sunday and threw four touchdown passes, is predicted to start on Thursday night against the Steelers, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Levis started Sunday’s 28-23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in lieu of starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was sidelined on Friday due to a right high ankle sprain sustained during the Week 6 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens in London.

In the event that Tannehill is unable to play on Thursday, Levis would take the field, as Titans coach Mike Vrabel stated on Monday.

“I think we’d probably say if Ryan can’t go, we’ll move forward with Will,” Vrabel said on Monday.

Despite being on the sidelines for the game on Sunday, Tannehill is still healing from a high ankle sprain. The injury is comparable to the first high ankle sprain he had during the previous season, which kept him out of two games.

When Tannehill returns to health, Vrabel did not say who will start.

The Titans improved to 3-4 after defeating the Falcons. Regarding possible changes before Tuesday’s trade deadline, Vrabel gave Tennessee no hard answers.

“We owe it to the team to make sure we listen diligently to anyone that would call on any of our players regardless of player, person or position just to make sure we’re doing right by the team,” he said.

With 19 of 29 pass attempts completed, Levis gained 238 yards and four touchdowns. He became the third NFL player to record four passing touchdowns in his debut game, behind former Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota (2015) against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton (1961 against the Chicago Bears).

In order to choose Levis with the second pick of the second round, the Titans sent a 2023 third-round pick and a 2024 third-round selection to the Arizona Cardinals, moving them up in the draft from No. 41 to No. 33 overall.

Levis has his sights set on a big game against the Steelers despite making history with his debut.

“We got the win, that’s all that matters,” Levis said Sunday. “Got to get ready for this short week against Pittsburgh.”
