Secret Audio, A Star Witness, And ‘Thai Prostitutes’ Complicate Sam Bankman-Fried’s Defense

Jurors deliberating the case against disgraced crypto tycoon Sam Bankman-Fried have been bombarded with evidence that, so far, appears to be quite damning two weeks into what could be a four- to six-week trial.

The government’s witnesses, some of whom said that Bankman-Fried was at the center of a years-long conspiracy to steal from clients, deceive investors, and go to great lengths to cover it all up, were cross-examined by the defense, which has not yet called any of its own witnesses.

The 31-year-old Bankman-Fried has entered a not guilty plea to seven counts of conspiracy and fraud. He has been charged with stealing deposits of billions of dollars from users of his FTX cryptocurrency exchange in order to cover losses at his other business, Alameda Research, a cryptocurrency trading firm.

During week two of the trial, the prosecutors used all of their resources. These are the main points.
