Red Bull’s Max Verstappen Wins United States Grand Prix Sprint Event At Austin

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who will start from pole position for Sunday’s US GP, was challenged by Max Verstappen, who just held onto his early lead.

During the first curve, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) passed Leclerc and aggressively pursued Verstappen. At half distance, Verstappen led by about 3 seconds, but he increased his lead to win by more than 9 seconds.

Verstappen maintained his lead in the pole position during the uphill approach to Turn 1. He passed fellow front-row starter Leclerc, disrupting the Ferrari driver’s line, and Hamilton overtook him at the turn, even though he had ran wide.

While most of the field was using medium tires, Carlos Sainz of Ferrari began the race on soft tires and overtook McLaren’s Lando Norris for fourth place at the hairpin.

For the first five circuits, Hamilton stayed within Verstappen’s DRS range as Leclerc dropped out of third place and then started to slow down the leader. For the next few laps, Verstappen was only a blip on Hamilton’s radar.

On lap three, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez passed Oscar Piastri (McLaren) for sixth place, and George Russell (Mercedes) gained ground at the next turn. To his dismay, Russell was given a five-second penalty for pulling off the track and gaining an advantage while passing Piastri.

Just before the halfway point, Norris attacked Sainz, moving up to fourth position on lap 10, and Perez followed suit a lap later.

Russell overtook Sainz for the sixth position at Turn 1, but in the closing moments, Russell was unable to maintain his lead.

Following an incredible outbraking move on Piastri at Turn 1 on lap five, Pierre Gasly finished ninth for Alpine. Russell lost a position to him after he finished within five seconds with the disqualified Mercedes.
