Mudryk And Broja Goals Gives Chelsea 2-0 Win Against Fulham

Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 thanks to goals from Mykhailo Mudryk, who scored his first goal for the Blues, and Armando Broja, who was celebrating his full return from injury in the Premier League on Monday.

Prior to their visit to Craven Cottage, Mauricio Pochettino’s incredibly expensive, new-look team had failed to score in each of their previous three league games and had only scored five goals in six matches in the top tier this season.

However, they took control of the West London derby in just two minutes of the first half.

After winger Mudryk of Ukraine received a cross from Levi Colwill and headed the ball past goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the 18th minute, a sloppy home defense allowed Broja to double the advantage a minute later.

It was Mudryk’s first goal since joining Chelsea nine months ago, and Broja, who was starting in place of the suspended Nicolas Jackson, had not played since suffering a knee injury at the conclusion of 2022.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. It’s been a long time coming,” Broja told talkSPORT about his goal.

“We are gelling as a team. It’s not going to happen overnight … It’s important for us to have that time and to keep progressing as a team.”

When he hit the post in the 62nd minute, Ian Maatsen, who came off the bench at halftime after Mudryk hurt himself, nearly made it three for Chelsea, who were cruising to only their second league victory of the year.

With eight points as a result of the outcome, Chelsea has jumped Fulham, who is in 13th place, on goal differential.

“The performance was fantastic – too many good things, very positive things. We need to keep working, keep believing,” said a relieved Pochettino.

“The belief was there … and the team today in the end got what we wanted. Now it’s about being ruthless and working really hard and finding better solutions.”

With several other important players already out, Pochettino downplayed concerns that Broja, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandez might have sustained further injuries, although he did admit that Mudryk had experienced thigh pain at the end of the first half.

Marco Silva, the coach of Fulham, expressed regret about the “soft goals” his team had conceded to the visitors.

“The belief was there … and the team today in the end got what we wanted. Now it’s about being ruthless and working really hard and finding better solutions.”
