Mild Quake Hit Mexico City, No Immediate Reports Of Casualties


Late on Friday, an earthquake alert was received in Mexico City, and certain regions of the city reportedly experienced some minor shaking, according to witnesses who talked to Reuters. However, there were no obvious signs of damage or injuries right away.

The earthquake’s epicenter occurred close to the hamlet of Matias Romero in southern Oaxaca state, and the seismological agency of Mexico first estimated its magnitude to be 6.3.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude was lower at 5.9, although it was about at the same location. The depth of the earthquake, according to the USGS, was 67 miles (108 km).
