Josh Allen, Bills Give Impressive Showing Against The Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Bucs were somewhat too close for comfort thanks to assistance from the Buffalo Bills.

However, the Bills ultimately put up a strong enough performance to defeat the Buccaneers 24–18 at home on Thursday Night Football at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. Josh Allen led the way for the Bills, rushing for a touchdown and throwing for 324 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Allen gave the Bills a 17-10 lead at the half when he scrambled for a 13-yard score and found rookie Dalton Kincaid on a 22-yard touchdown pass.

They would quickly add to that in the second half as Allen led the Bills on a nine-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by a 4-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Davis, increasing their lead to 24-10.

The Bills were comfortably ahead in the fourth quarter until their defense gave up a face mask and illegal contact penalty, which gave Tampa a lifeline on two different fourth-down situations. That would set up Mayfield and Mike Evans for a 24-yard touchdown pass, capping a 17-play, 92-yard drive. With 2:44 remaining in the game, the Bucs would add a successful 2-point conversion to get within 24-18.

Even with 21 seconds remaining, they would recover the ball, but their hopes of pulling off a spectacular comeback would be dashed by quarterback Baker Mayfield’s botched effort to throw the ball into the end zone, where wide receiver Chris Godwin could have caught the game-winning pass if he had turned around just a second sooner.

Despite this, Allen led the Bills brilliantly by effectively spreading the ball to his receiving corps. Davis finished with nine receptions for 87 yards and one score, while Khalil Shakir had six receptions for 92 yards. Kincaid had five receptions for 65 yards and one touchdown, while Stefon Diggs had nine receptions for 70 yards.

The win moves the Bills’ record to 5-3. The Buccaneers drop to 3-4 after suffering three straight losses.
