Jordan Hicks Admits Difficulty Facing Brock Purdy

The Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers square off on “Monday Night Football,” two clubs that have had wildly disparate seasons.

The Vikings, the reigning NFC North champions, have not had the start to their 2023 campaign as they enter this game with a record of two wins and four losses. On the one hand, San Francisco just suffered its first loss of the season in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.

However, not everything in Minnesota is bad. They recently defeated a division foe, and a win today would move them closer to the leaders, the Detroit Lions, who were just defeated by the Baltimore Ravens.

I had the opportunity to speak with Jordan Hicks, a linebacker for the Vikings, regarding the game against the 49ers. Hicks was named the National Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week 6 after becoming the first player of his position to record 10 or more tackles, an interception, force a fumble, and return it for a touchdown in a single game since Brian Urlacher in 2011.

“Everything starts with preparation, in this case we have an extra day,” he declared in an interview with ESPN . ” Monday Night Football brings its own energy, but at the end of the day it’s about mentality, coming prepared, facing a team of this caliber is a good opportunity for the city and the team.”

Regarding 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, Jordan Hicks made the following remarks:

“He’s a real quarterback, he’s making great decisions, he understands defensive schemes, I think he only has one interception [this season] and he’s playing at a high level,” he said.

Given his statistical superiority at his position, Brock Purdy was a strong contender to earn the NFL Most Valuable Player award prior to his Week 6 loss.

Though he lost his first game as a starter in the final series, he gave his team a chance to win when kicker Jake Moody missed a 41-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the game, making that game in Cleveland—the poorest of his brief and successful career—the game in which he threw his first interception of the season.

“We know that the 49ers are a team that plays based on the ball, but when the ball is in his hands [ Brock Purdy ] he makes good decisions and shoots very well,” said Jordan Hicks .

The NFL’s leading club going into Week 7 is the Vikings. Danielle Hunter and TJ Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers lead the NFL in sacks with eight games remaining, partly due to Brian Flores’ defense’s use of blitzes on 57.9% of plays.

Due to a sprained ankle, Trent Williams, one of the best left tackles in the league, will not be available for the 49ers. As a result, Brock Purdy will need to improve upon his performance in Cleveland if the team is to win. The 49ers will be up against a fierce defense led by Hunter, Jordan Hicks, and Harrison Smith.
