Hurts Throws For 319 yards, Elliott’s 54-Yarder Lifts 4-0 Eagles Win Commanders 34-31 In OT

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 34-31 on Sunday to continue their perfect start to the season. Jalen Hurts threw for 319 yards and two scores, while Jake Elliott added a 54-yard field goal in overtime.

Prior to his game-winning field goal, Elliott also made kicks of 41, 47, and 36 yards, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

the Eagles’ undefeated record intact.

However, not before some late-game drama had the Eagles (2-2) on the verge of losing at home to the Commanders (2-2) for the second consecutive year.

With 1:28 remaining in regulation, Hurts connected with A.J. Brown for a touchdown of 28 yards and a 31-24 advantage. Sam Howell was able to lead Washington to the tying score because the Eagles gave him ample time to do it rather than stopping the clock and attempting a winning field goal.

Brown was warned for making fun of his TD, which helped the Commanders. Starting at the Eagles 36, Washington tied it with a last-second touchdown pass from Howell to Jahan Dotson of 10 yards.

Coach Ron Rivera made the decision to go for the extra point and the tie on the road, which resulted in a 31-all tie and overtime.

In overtime, the Commanders did nothing with the ball. Hurts later scored on a fourth-down sneak to advance the Eagles to the Washington Redskins’ 48-yard line and set up the game-winning touchdown.

For the first time since 1992-1993, the NFC champion Eagles are 4-0 in successive seasons, thanks in large part to Brown’s nine receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles’ 8-0 start last year was derailed by a defeat by Washington at home.

The Commanders gave it another go and tied the score 24-24 in the fourth after leading 17-13 in the third.

Hurts got as near as he has all season to playing in the kind of exciting games that highlighted his team’s journey to the Super Bowl the previous year. He was certainly adept at engaging Brown.

After a brief altercation during the home opener, Hurts and Brown have moved past it and are now combining for game-changing scores. Hurts struck Brown in mid-air, and the quick receiver quickly cut across the field to score the game-winning 59-yard touchdown in the third. The 2-point conversion gave the Eagles a 21-13 advantage.

Prior to switching to the normal footwear to avoid a fine from the league, Brown wore neon green cleats for one series last week against Tampa Bay. He defied fashion standards once more by donning highlight pink cleats; according to Brown, the bright colors made it simpler for his young daughter to recognize him on the field. He subsequently had the game’s biggest highlight for Philadelphia.
