Harry Kane Scores From Inside Own Half As Bayern Munich Defeats SV Darmstadt 98 8-0

With a triple trick from Harry Kane and all the goals coming in the second half, Bayern Munich easily defeated SV Darmstadt 98 on Saturday to take the top spot in the Bundesliga. Manuel Neuer’s injury comeback was overshadowed by a record three red cards in the first half.

After halftime, with 10 men, the hosts were unstoppable against Darmstadt, who had just nine players. Kane’s diving header in the 52nd minute gave them the lead.

After goals by Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané to end the match, Kane scored again with an incredible 60-meter looping shot from within the Bayern half.

Five minutes later, Thomas Müller scored another, and Musiala added another, and Kane’s 12th goal in nine league games completed his hat trick.

Joshua Kimmich of Bayern and two players from Darmstadt were sent off with straight red cards in a wild first half that was the first time this has happened in the first forty-five minutes of a Bundesliga match.

Bayern leads Bayer Leverkusen, who play Freiburg on Sunday, by one point with 23 points. VfB Stuttgart’s 3-2 home loss to Hoffenheim demoted them to third position with 21 points.

After thrashing Cologne 6-0, RB Leipzig is now tied for fourth place with 20 points, one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund, who can move up to the top with a victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Neuer, who fractured his leg in a skiing accident in December 2022 after Germany’s early World Cup loss, was the center of attention in Munich. The home supporters enthusiastically welcomed him as captain of his side.

But in the fourth minute, the fun went sour when Neuer found midfielder Kimmich, who mishandled the ball and brought down Marwin Mehlem at the edge of the box, earning him a red card.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men on the 21st after Klaus Gjasula was sent off for a last-man foul on Konrad Laimer, bringing the numbers back to par.

After a brief Darmstadt break, Neuer stopped Mehlem’s effort, demonstrating that he was on pace to return to his peak just before another player was sent off for the visitors.

After bringing down Kane as he was running clear in the 41st minute, Matej Maglica was sent off, creating a league record with three sendings-off in the first half.

After the halftime, Bayern went on the rampage, scoring eight goals in only 37 minutes. There was no stopping them.

Kane’s bold second goal was a strong contender for goal of the year, and Darmstadt were powerless.
