Harrison Barnes Scores 33, Powers Kings Defeat Jazz 130-114 In Season Opener

In the opening game of the seasons for both clubs, Harrison Barnes scored 33 points to lead the Sacramento Kings over the Utah Jazz, 130-114 on Wednesday night.

For the Kings, De’Aaron Fox scored eighteen points, while Domantas Sabonis contributed twenty-two points and twelve rebounds. Coming off the bench, Malik Monk contributed a team-high seven assists.

Sacramento made 19 of 51 3-pointers to completely outscore Utah from the outside. The Kings’ overall field goal percentage was 46%.

Leading the Jazz with 24 points and six assists was Jordan Clarkson. In his Utah debut, John Collins finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Lauri Markkanen recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Jazz had prevailed in their previous six season openers before losing on Wednesday night at home. Utah has now lost four of their previous five games versus Sacramento during the regular season.

Barnes scored 27 points before halftime after making his first eight shots, including four 3-pointers. In the first half, the seasoned forward made 10 of 11 shots from the field.

When Barnes scored four baskets to start a 10-0 run late in the first quarter that put Sacramento up 32-21, he gave an indication of what was to come. During a four-minute stretch without a point, Utah missed five shots and made four mistakes, creating an opportunity for Barnes and the Kings.

In the second quarter, Barnes and Sabonis combined for seven baskets in a four-minute span, giving Sacramento a 19-point lead. At that point, the score was 69-50.

Early in the third quarter, Utah reduced the score to 74-65 thanks to back-to-back baskets from Walker Kessler and Talen Horton-Tucker, but they were unable to go any closer.

After Fox made a 3-pointer, Sacramento took a double-digit lead again and eventually led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter.
