Carabao Cup To Stop Being Two-Legged Ties After 2023-24 Season

Carabao Cup To Stop Being Two-Legged Ties After 2023-24 Season

The EFL organizing body has informed all participating clubs that the Carabao Cup will stop being a two-leg tie after the 2023-24 season.

According to the Daily Mail, the organization has been negotiating a broadcast deal with Sky Sports starting next season that includes no penalty charge for scrapping two-legged semis.

The package must first be signed off by the 20 Premier League clubs who are aware of the move.

The League Cup (run by the EFL and known by a variety of sponsor names over the years) has had two-legged semi-finals since it debuted in the 1960-61 season.

Many players have complained of fatigue due to fixture congestion and the EFL organizers are considering moves to make it easy for the players.

But the league is a major source of revenue for the EFL, so the motion has to be agreed across the table before anything can be done.

The Carabao Cup competition resumes this week, with the eight fourth-round ties to be played across Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

After Manchester United and Newcastle’s match, the competition would head straight to the quarterfinals.
