104-Year-Old Woman Dies Days After Jumping From Plane To Break Record For Oldest Skydiver

Days after attempting to break the record for the oldest person to jump off of an airplane, a 104-year-old woman from Chicago passed away.

After jumping off of a plane last Sunday, Dorothy Hoffner told the Chicago Tribune, “Age is just a number.”

She was discovered dead at the Brookdale Lake View senior living facility on Monday morning, according to Joe Conant, a close friend of Hoffner’s who spoke to ABC7. She seems to have passed away peacefully.

“She was indefatigable. She just kept going,” he said Tuesday. “She was not someone who would take naps in the afternoon, or not show up for any function, dinner or anything else. She was always there, fully present. She kept going, always.”

Hoffner broke the record for the oldest person to ever skydive a week earlier. In order to validate Hoffner’s jump as a record, Skydive Chicago is working with the Guinness World Records.

Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson of Sweden attained the Guinness World Record in May 2022 at the age of 103.
