Utah’s Noelia Voigt crowned Miss USA 2023

At the conclusion of the 2023 pageant at the Grand Sierra Resort on Friday night, which was live-broadcast on the CW Network, Noelia Voigt of Utah was named the new Miss USA. Hawaii’s Savannah Gankiewicz finished as first runner-up.

At the pageant, Voigt, 23, prevailed over 50 other state champions. At the beginning of the television competition, there were 20 finalists. After the required swimwear and evening gown rounds, the field was further reduced to just five contestants: Voigt, Gankiewicz, Jasmine Daniels of Pennsylvania, Lluvia Alzate of Texas, and Alexis Loomans of Wisconsin.

In the final Q&A session, when asked what she would bring to the Miss Universe Organization as a “brand ambassador” and Miss USA, Voigt highlighted the fact that she is a “bilingual Venezuelan-American,” and she vowed to engage with varied communities all across the country.

Judges were Vivica A. Fox, Patrick Starrr, a beauty blogger, and former “Real Housewife” Luann de Lesseps.

In a statement issued at the beginning of September, Laylah Rose, president and chief executive officer of the Miss USA Organization, stated that the goal of the pageant was to “offer a modern and progressive approach to a 70-year-old tradition.” As a result of a recent rule modification made by the Miss Universe Organization, Juliana Morehouse-Locklear of Maine was this year’s Miss USA and was the first married state titleholder. (Morehouse-Locklear, a Miss USA contestant’s daughter from 1994.

Morgan Romano of North Carolina, the Miss USA for 2022, is succeeded by Voigt. R’Bonney Gabriel of Texas, who was crowned Miss Universe 2022 in January, lost the title to Romano.

Gabriel’s victory at the Miss USA pageant in 2022 was overshadowed by allegations made by some of her rivals that the competition had been “rigged” in Gabriel’s favor.

The Miss Universe Organization, the parent organization of Miss USA, launched an inquiry and suspended Crystle Stewart, the 2008 Miss USA winner, and her business, Miss Brands, in the weeks following her coronation in October 2022.

The accusations were all denied by Gabriel, Stewart, and other government officials. Gabriel stated to E! News at the time, “There was no unfair advantage and nothing was rigged,” and Stewart issued a statement, “The last thing I would ever want to do is discredit or deny the contestants an equal opportunity to a fair competition.” I would never put my dream of leading a group that gives these young women power in jeopardy.

The pageant made the announcement that its relationship with Stewart would cease in August. Miss USA stated that “after much discussion and consideration, (the Miss Universe Organization) and Crystle were unable to reach an agreement as to Crystle and Miss Brand’s continuing involvement” despite a “thorough and extensive investigation” finding the accusations against the pageant to be untrue.

Crystle has made the decision to use her accomplishment with the Miss USA Organization as a springboard for her other commercial endeavors.

The title of Miss Teen USA was bestowed upon New Jersey native UmaSofia Srivastava, 16, on Thursday night at the Grand Sierra Resort. First runner-up was 19-year-old New Yorker Stephanie Skinner.
