California, the San Francisco 49ers (3-0) defeated the New York Giants (1-2) to start Week 3 of the NFL season at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Since they had been outscored 60-0 in the first six quarters of the season prior to that narrow victory, Daniel Jones and the Giants were coming off a spectacular second-half comeback victory over Arizona in Week 2 that may have perhaps saved their entire season.
On the other hand, Brock Purdy and company continue to lead the NFC West without a loss. As Giants running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) were both sidelined with injuries, both clubs were without a crucial offensive catalyst.
To start the game, San Francisco carefully moved the ball down the field and into the end zone, but it was limited to a 28-yard field goal from Jake Moody. After moving the ball for a short while, New York settled for a Graham Gano field goal from 44 yards out.
Late in the first quarter, when he had an open road to Jones and took the Giants quarterback to the ground, standout 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa recorded his first sack of the year.
