Michigan Football Defeats Rutgers 31-7 At Michigan Stadium

Michigan’s main football game was against Rutgers at noon in Ann Arbor at Michigan Stadium. Without their head coach Jim Harbaugh for the first three weeks of nonconference play, the Wolverines cruised through, but on Saturday they welcomed him back. He also had an impact.

The Wolverines were a 24-point favorite, marking the first time this season that they weren’t a five-touchdown favorite, but not all national analysts believed Michigan would win at home. That turned out to be untrue, as the Wolverines pulled away in the second half to win 31-7, a margin of victory of 24 points. Nice job, Vegas.

Michigan used a flurry of runs to squander the remaining seven minutes of the clock. Upon Harbaugh’s reinstatement, the Wolverines improved to 4-0 after defeating Rutgers 17-0 in the second half.

Blake Corum increased his season tally of touchdowns by two, while Mike Sainristil added a pick-six to put the game’s final touches on it. Semaj Morgan, a West Bloomfield, New Jersey, rookie wide receiver, scored Michigan’s first touchdown and the Wolverines never trailed after that.

The Michigan defense, which allowed a long score in the first minute of the game, held a shutout, and was dominant once again. Michigan is now 1-0 in Big Ten competition and will play Nebraska the following week.
