In the first five and a half minutes of the game, the Raiders had a drive that culminated in a touchdown pass from Jimmy Garoppolo to Jakobi Meyers in a contest marked by protracted, deliberate drives from both sides, the Silver and Black earned their first victory of the year. Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught a touchdown pass from Russell Wilson during the Broncos’ 8:44-long drive in response.
This is the first Raiders-Broncos game in which both teams scored a touchdown on their first possession since December 29, 2013.
Both teams were attempting to profit from one other’s errors as the game was back and forth. There were ten penalties total for each team. Due to Will Lutz’s failed field goal and extra point, the Broncos special teams suffered.
Garoppolo connected with Meyers once again for a six-yard touchdown to give the Raiders a 17-16 lead after trailing for the bulk of the second half with 6:34 left in the game.
Garoppolo secured the victory with an 8-yard rush for a first down following a couple of defensive stops with 1:43 remaining.
Jakobi Meyers, a wide receiver, and Divine Deablo, a linebacker, were the Silver and Black’s offensive and defensive standouts. Meyers, a former New England Patriot, stated last week that he wanted to make the most of his opportunity to play alongside Davante Adams, and he undoubtedly did so. Before leaving the game due to injury, the receiver was the team’s leader in catches (nine) and receiving yards (81).
Deablo played in his first regular-season game since his season-ending elbow injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars in November of last year. In Denver, the linebacker appeared revitalized and was moving around the field with ease. Nine total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass deflection were all he had by the end of Week 1.
The Las Vegas Raiders are already anticipating their next matchup against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, September 17.
