Drew Barrymore To Bring Back Talk Show Amid The Ongoing Hollywood Strikes

In the midst of the ongoing Hollywood strikes, Drew Barrymore revealed she was returning to her talk show, drawing criticism from other actors and writers and demands for picketing the set.

Hollywood veteran Drew Barrymore, an actor and producer, began her start when she was only a young child. She debuted The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020.

CBS advertises the program’s “exclusive celebrity interviews, distinctive lifestyle segments, social media influencers, and feel-good news stories” as a combination of lifestyle and product talks.

Its third season ended in April, shortly before the strikes began, and this will be its fourth. Without authors, it is scheduled to start on September 18.

As contract negotiations with major studios stall, writers have been on strike since May, and actors joined them in July.

Barrymore said in a statement over the weekend that “I own this choice” and that the program would be “in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind.”

The show itself, however, is “struck,” according to the Writers Guild of America [WGA], which means union members are not allowed to work on it. The WGA adds in a statement that it will picket any strike-affected programs that are currently in production: “Any writing on The Drew Barrymore Show is in violation of WGA strike rules.”

While the strikes are ongoing, other discussion shows have paused and are airing reruns. Strike Force Five, a new podcast from the late-night show hosts, will benefit the show personnel and its production.
