The US Secretary of State has announced a new military package for Ukraine worth $250 million in their fight against Russia.
According to the US secretary, the package includes additional mine-clearing equipment, missiles for air defense, ammunition for artillery and high bar systems, and over 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
“The United States and our allies and partners will stand united with Ukraine, for as long as it takes,” Blinken said after the White House sealed talks to sell weapons worth $2 billion to Poland.
More than $43 billion in U.S. military aid has been provided to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022, the latest being the $24 billion aid that Joe Biden asked Congress to approve.
Ukrainian troops began a counteroffensive in the east and south in early June but have made slow progress through Russian minefields and trenches blocking their southern push.
“I am grateful to all American people, the Congress and personally to President Joseph Biden… for the new defense package,” Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on Z, formerly known as Twitter.
“Freedom needs protection, and this protection is growing strong.”
