Leicester City who were relegated from the Premier League last season had their first match in the EFL under the supervision of new coach, Enzo Maresca.
The Foxes opened their EFL campaign at home against Coventry on Sunday, 6th of August, 2023 and it was a joy to watch.
In the first half, both teams tried to get ahead, but none could get a goal on the back of the next. So at the end of the first half, it was Leicester 0, Coventry 0.
At half-time, Keith Hastings said I’ll take this. Given that we (Cov) are the underdogs here, especially given that we’ve got a new team out there who have had little chance to work together, I’ll happily take a 0-0 result today.
But just two minutes into the second half, Hamer curled a sweet corner towards the near post, and McFadzean, running away from the crowd in the penalty box, got behind the ball to punch a fine header inside the near post.
Leicester equalized in the 77th minute through Drewsbury-Hall. Winks started the move after he latched onto the ball and sent a firm pass into the path of Praet who crossed it one time. Dewsbury-Hall met it with a fine header down into the far corner.
And three minutes to stoppage time, Leceister got ahead of Dewsbury-Hall who got his brace for the day.
Dewsbury Hall played a one-two pass with Mavididi and on the return, he fired the ball through Thomas’s legs and into the back of the net.
An extra 10 minutes of injury time was added, but Coventry could not find an equalizer against the former Premier League Titleholders.
In his first game in charge of the Foxes, Enzo Maresca got all 3 points, and City was cruising to a beautiful campaign.
