Chelsea To Pay €16million For New England Keeper

Premier League Giants, Chelsea has agreed to pay €16 million to bring in Serbian goalkeeper, Djordje Petrovic from New England.

The Premier League side have agreed a fee worth €16million (£13.6m, $17.4m) plus €2m in add-ons for the 23-year-old, as Mendy and Kepa have left for new clubs.

Chelsea had previously had talks with the New England Revolution to open a bid for the best keeper in the MLS division.

But it looked like the club was not ready to sell him, as they turned down bids from Nottingham Forest and French side Nantes.

But Petrovic pushed for the move, as he wanted to explore bigger clubs and Chelsea was ready to pay a record fee for him.

New England, meanwhile, is close to signing free agent and Czech Republic international goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik as a replacement goalkeeper for Petrovic.

The summer transfer window in MLS has closed but MLS clubs can sign free agents until September 13.

Petrovic has made 48 appearances in New England after signing in 2022 and quickly established himself after Matt Turner departed for Arsenal.

He was voted second in MLS Goalkeeper of the Year last season, despite playing only 21 of 34 matches after joining midseason. He was named a 2023 MLS All-Star.
