Bruce Springsteen Postpones Two Tour Dates Due To Health Condition

Bruce Springsteen will be postponing two performances due to ill health. The dates of his shows on Wednesday and Friday nights will need to be rescheduled, according to a message on his X/Twitter profile.

“Due to Bruce Springsteen having been taken ill, his concerts with the E Street Band at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18 have been postponed,” said the social media account. “We are working on rescheduling the dates so please hold on to your tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled shows.”

Before the remaining tour dates are impacted, Springsteen has some time to recover. The band’s next scheduled performances are set for Aug. 24 and 26 in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is just over a week away.

The Philadelphia news marks the third time this year that a postponement or cancellation has been attributed to illness, but it is not always apparent that Springsteen’s own illness was the cause in each case. Three concerts that were originally set for March in Albany, Columbus, and Uncasville, Connecticut, were postponed and rescheduled for September “due to illness,” with no additional explanation.

Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa were both diagnosed with COVID in April, forcing them to postpone a performance even though it was a tour lull and no actual gigs were affected.

After testing positive the day after the final show on the original 2023 U.S. tour, they both missed the American Music Honors awards ceremony in New Jersey, which served as a fundraiser for the Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University.

Instead, they recorded a video acceptance speech in which they seemed to be feeling good despite the diagnosis. When the tour started two weeks later, the pair was back in action without incident.

Few of the 2023 tour’s dates have taken place without the E Street Band. During the first few weeks of the tour, which started on February 1, Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, Soozie Tyrell, and Jake Clemons each missed one show and two shows, respectively.

With the exception of October, when they will be completely off the road, Springsteen and the E Street Band have a very packed schedule for the remainder of the year. Through the end of September, the focus of the 2023 tour is primarily on the east coast.

Following the break in November, the tour resumes in Canada. In the early half of December, it finally makes it to the southwest for a last U.S. tour stop that includes performances in San Francisco on December 10 and 12.
